Don't Blink!

Nearly a year ago I started blogging.

Funny how life can change in a year.

Last year (April) I started a craft blog.  It began with the "recreation" of a couple rooms in our home.  I was going to take them over for my craft room.  I even managed to do a bit of crafting in there and signed up for a craft show that was my first in years.  I was thrilled.

One week before the show (End of October) I got a phone call.  My Mom had been informed that she could no longer live alone.  Her choices were assisted living or moving in with a family member.

After looking at some of the places available and how small they were for what she could afford and taking into consideration her claustrophobia, the choice was clear.

I waved good by to the craft rooms...then the tub (it was old, no big loss lol) and the toilet (same deal here)...as well as 3 rooms worth of drywall when we discovered these rooms had no insulation.

I now know how to mud, tape and sand drywall.  NO do not call me, I will not help you on your home improvement project.  I have hung up my trowel.  Yikes thats some messy stuff.

We had a limited amount of time to do this little (or big...depending on if you are the one doing the work) project.  When Mom received this news she was  in a nursing home receiving physical therapy for an issue with her knee replacement.  Once that PT (physical therapy) was done they were going to cut her loose and she had to have a place to go.

My Brother In Law is pretty handy with this stuff and  headed the project.  Like all things that start this way, it blossomed.  My hubby kept saying "We were only going to replace the tub and toilet!"  Bless his heart.  Once we got over the shock of seeing nothing but studs in three rooms we started learning how to mud, tape etc.   Ok well I learned, he had an idea but I knew nearly nothing.  Two months later we are scrambling to get it done before Christmas because Mom is being released.

It was cute, my Mom kept telling everyone that we were building her an apartment.  I guess, in a way it kind of is.  She has a living room, bedroom and bath and those are right off our dining room and kitchen.  She moved in the day before her 81st birthday and that night was our first trip to the hospital.  A nose bleed that would not stop.   I tease her now that she was testing me...making sure I was up to the challenge and I guess I showed her that I was.  We got thru that first event and moved on.

Another challenge has been the fact that hubby and I had a midlife baby 3 years ago.  We have older children and after years we never imagined that  we would have more.  Huh.

So here we were with our middle daughter about to graduate high school and we discovered we were pregnant.  yikes.

So as we move fully into middle age we meet these challenges face on.  Creating a new household with baby and Gramma.  The previous mentioned "teenager" has moved forward with her life and moved out and is planning her life with her loved one.

Life swings fully.

That is why I am here.
To share our challenges, our solutions and successes...as well as the disappointments.  To lend strength to those who might be going thru a similar situation and maybe draw on the experience of others.

I hope that you will join us on our journey, find value in our experience and use it to make your journey easier.
